Baseball Instructor - Chase Brundage
Chase Brundage enters his fourth season coaching at DMACC. He assists with pitchers, recruiting, and organization of equipment and technology. Before coming to DMACC, Brundage attended Urbandale High School and took part in two baseball state titles in 2018 and 2019. Brundage also has spent the past two summers coaching with Urbandale HS as the Head JV Baseball Coach and an Assistant with the Varsity. Brundage graduated from DMACC with an AA-Liberal Arts in the Spring of 2021. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor or Liberal Studies at Iowa State University. Softball Instructor- Mike Mathews
Coach Mathews works with softball players of all ages and teaches hitting through the proper use of the body’s kinetic chain to increase power and improve hand path. Players will not only be taught how to make more efficient use of body movement through the swing, but also the science behind the “why”. Players are then encouraged to use the information to try to make corrections in game or as they are working on their own. They are also encouraged to participate in functional strength training and conditioning which will not only increase performance on the field, but also help build self-esteem and confidence.
Coach Mathews has coached competitive travel baseball and softball for the past 20 years. His travel teams have placed in the top 8 in National tournaments 5 times, with two National Championships along with over a dozen State Championships at various levels. Currently he coaches softball with Iowa Blitz/Iowa Gold at the 13U level and previously was the Head Varsity Softball Coach at Madrid High School for 3 years.

softball Instructor - Steve Mahlberg
Hello! My name is Steve Mahlberg. Back in 2006 when my daughter started travel ball, I began studying how to teach the skills and fundamentals of all aspects of softball. I have studied under Mike Candrea, Sue Enquist and Mary Thompson. The hitting style I use is designed to hit climbing line drives. Using this technique; the home runs will come. In regards to pitching, I train for speed with proper form and mechanics. By focusing on these things; accuracy will come.
I have coached travel ball of all ages and for Glidden Ralston High School, which resulted in 2 regional final games and one state tournament appearance. I took the team batting average from .263 to .433 and the slugging percentage from .286 to .572. Pitchers I have worked with have achieved all conference and all district awards.

When developing a hitter or pitcher’s skills, you must correct asymmetries and imbalances that profoundly affect an athlete’s ability to improve. Coach Steve will do an assessment and design a training program aimed at vastly improving the athlete’s biomechanics. When you correct the imbalance and improve the fundamentals of biomechanical efficiency; the athlete will see results in power transfer when hitting and pitching. In other words, never build strength upon disfunction. Build the fundamentals of movement and power transfer first!

softball Instructor - emmalee Bell
My name is Emmalee Bell and I am offering hitting and defensive lessons at the Hitting Hut in Boone, IA. I currently play for Knights Fastpitch and plan on continuing my athletic and academic career at Ellsworth Community College. I hope to become a teacher and coach one day, and am looking to get some experience now! For my travel season stats, I’m currently batting an average of .557, OPS of 1.819, SLG of 1.173, 25 RBI’s, and 7 home-runs. I play first base and out of 120 chances, I’m currently fielding an average of .959. I am excited to get work with the young girls in our community!
